Anne and Paul had an elegant St. Patrick’s Day wedding in downtown Denver. I enjoyed all of the wonderful people that were a part of their day, including many family and friends that came from out of state. Since their guests were such an important part of their day, Anne and Paul wanted to have their wedding in an easily accessible place with lots of choices for food and activities. Downtown Denver was a perfect location.

They were married in the Pinnacle Room of the Grand Hyatt, offering a sweeping view of the city below. After the ceremony on the 38th floor, they braved the city and its thousands of Irish faithful with their wedding party for some spontaneous moments on 16th street.

March can be unpredictable in Colorado, but it was a gorgeous day. As the crowds cheering them on did not disappoint, neither did the weather. The blue sky and mild temperatures gave the wedding party a brief chance to visit Washington Park pre-ceremony. For the months preceding their wedding, Anne had been dreaming of what the sunset would look like on that day. When the sun slipped behind the Rockies to the west, we watched it color the sky with pale blues, yellows and orange.

Anne and Paul are celebrating their one year anniversary today. Happy Anniversary, St Patrick’s Style!

The Bride and Her Dad | Jenni and Bart Wedding Photographers

As a Dad, I often think about the day I will give my daughter away at her wedding.

One of the privileges I’ve had over the years is to be able to experience the moment when a Father sees his daughter for the first time on her wedding day. Almost every time, the emotion brings him to tears. It’s beautiful, sacred and precious.

I wonder if what that Dad is feeling matches what I see in his face…

Joy. His heart is bursting with happiness over a lifetime of memories that have led them to this day. His daughter is a beautiful bride, and yet, he can picture her as the infant he held in his arms, the 7 year old he tucked into bed, and the teenager he waited up for after dark.

Pride. He knows that she has come so far, accomplished so much, become such an amazing woman embarking on a life all her own. She has followed her passions and dreams, which have in part led her here to her wedding day.

Love. I always see this overflowing at some point in the day. It may be the first look as he enters her room after she’s dressed, it may be the quiet moments that they share in the fleeting seconds before her processional starts, or when he dances with her at the reception. He loves her. More than she knows, and yet not perfectly, but so intensely. He loves her with all his heart.

As I write this, I can’t help but think of my 8 year daughter and the first moments we shared, the hikes we took in the mountains, and the dates at Starbucks with hot chocolate and coffee. And, like I’ve witnessed so many times before from the other side of the camera, I can’t help but think of that priceless photo I hope to one day have of me with her… taken by someone else, on her wedding day.

Kelli {Kelli Noel Weddings} - Bart, That is beautifully written. When I watch the mother/son dance at my weddings, I cry and think of how I will feel when Tyler marry’s the girl of his dreams and we share that dance together. And of course I cry

Chelsy + Matthew | Curacao, Dutch Caribbean | Destination Beach Wedding

Destination Caribbean Wedding | Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort

Wedding Dress | Vera Wang

Something we love about photography is meeting new people and building relationships with families that go beyond a day or a weekend. We have that kind of relationship with this family.

We first met Chelsy and Matthew when we photographed Chelsy’s sister’s wedding. Ryan and Mark’s wedding was a beautiful, large, and more formal wedding located in Boulder, Colorado. Chelsy and Matthew opted for a small, casual destination wedding in Curaçao, an island in the Dutch Caribbean. Each wedding unique to their own desires and personalities.

Downtown Curacao

The sisters vacationed in Curaçao as girls. When the dream to have a destination wedding was born, Chelsy’s childhood memories were reborn as they chose the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort as the ideal location for a fun family celebration.

Family and close friends joined them for a long weekend of poolside parties, trips to town and boating adventures around the island.

The day before the wedding, a scrumptious rehearsal brunch was laid out by the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort  staff, complete with thick sliced vanilla french toast and freshly chopped fruits. Stories were shared and glasses were raised as all their family and friends joined them on the shaded veranda overlooking the sea.

Chelsy looked stunning in her dress by designer Vera Wang.

The sandy beach for their ceremony was just a few feet from lapping waves and passing schooners, but it felt a million miles away from the busy life of everyday America.

Barefoot and relaxed, Chelsy’s dad brought her to Matthew, where he saw her for the first time walking down the beach.

After vows, rings and a few words, their family and friends circled for champagne in the sand before retreating to a party at a nearby pavillion.

The warm night didn’t slow down the band, the dancing, or the fun.

Amazing Race

We’ve watched the Amazing Race for years. We have wanted to race around the world since the first episode we ever watched. We’ve lived and traveled all over the world. Bart speaks a little Turkish, German, and French. I know some French. We both lean on the competitive side and love experiencing new cultures. Honestly, any couple who is sleep deprived, competing for a million dollars, and doing crazy things in another country is bound to make for some good TV. Some pairs more so than others. Trust me, when Bart gets in his go, go, go mode and I don’t agree or feel hesitant, my heels (not the 4 inch kind-I like to wear flats) dig in and it is not pretty. Even with the likelihood of a little drama between us, I think we would make a great team and would have an absolute blast.

They had casting calls in Denver last week, so we finally gave it a go. When we arrived we found this lovely sign(Casting Call Closed) taped to a ‘trash can’. This didn’t deter us. I got in line anyway and Bart went to find and talk to the person who was in charge. Walla-he came back with a form and we got a shot.

We had to wait for 5 hours in line, but then we got our 1 minute in front of the camera. It was a fun day of conversations with the people around us, time together, and figuring out our 1 minute plan. We’ll see if we get a call back. If not, we’ll chalk it up as a great day date and experience. What would you say with one minute in front of the camera?

We could sense the deep bonds that Emily and Nathan had with their families and friends when we first arrived. The natural details and decorations on the tables were handmade by Emily and her family.

Generations of wedding photos were displayed in beautifully crafted frames, each one unique and also giving homage to the deep roots of their ancestry.

On the tables, collections of vintage vases were painted and clustered with wildflowers and grasses. Love quotes and personal statements testifying to their relationship were hand printed on cards held up by recycled wine corks.

From the family dessert table to the rustic barn overlooking the lake, there were personal touches everywhere you looked. Nathan is studying viticulture(winemaking) in Oregon, and brought a supply of fine wines from Panther Creek Cellars for the celebration.

While Nathan has his hands in the soil, Emily is working at Pheromone Gallery, where designer and artist Christopher Marley’s chief objective in working with obscure organisms is to foster a deeper appreciation for the masterful design found everywhere in the natural world.

Emily and Nathan recited their vows under a bright blue sky at The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park in Evergreen, Colorado. With their entire family, dozens of friends and their dog looking on, they sealed a wooden box with personal notes from their parents and a wine that will be opened on their 5th anniversary.

They then retreated to the barn for a celebration of a barbeque dinner by The Food Guy and music by Waiting On Trial, a bluegrass band from Durango, Colorado. There was much dancing into the evening.
