Military Wedding | Sara and James

We had the privilege of photographing a lovely military wedding couple. Sara and James met and fell in love while they were serving and sacrificing for our country and freedom. Their wedding was an outdoor mountain wedding at Lionscrest Manor that was full of natural and personal details. They celebrated with close family and friends. One of my favorite details from the day was the sniper sneaking out of the bottom of their cake. Thank you Sara and James for continuing to protect and serve our nation!

Sacred Moments at Sanibel Island

Beach vacations are full of sacred moments and memories for us. We love to travel, and as a family we ended the year with a Sanibel Beach vacation. As newlyweds, we visited the island many years ago. We loved the look of the island, because it had a very laid-back, non-commercial feel. There are no high rises on the island and no neon anything. Signs for every business were made of carved wood and fresh paint, giving everything a natural and simple look. A perfect fit for our end of the year getaway.

We played…

Searched for shells…

Made sand bombs…

We were silly and spontaneous…

Ate lots of ice cream at Pinocchios (this isn’t unusual-we eat a lot at home too)…

Saw the natural beauty of God’s creation on the Sanibel Thriller

Had a taste of home…Go Broncos!

We were together…

Sanibel Island is one of the best spots for a destination wedding, honeymoon or beach vacation in Florida. If you are hoping for sacred moments on the beach for your wedding, Sanibel (or its higher-budget twin, Captiva) is worth considering. The incredible shelling and sandy beaches draw you to the water morning, noon and night. The slower pace is a refreshing break from the high-energy “strip” destinations found elsewhere, but there are still great dining and shopping spots for any budget.

For the last couple of years, I (Jenni) have chosen one word that I want to focus on for the incoming new year. Joy was my word for 2013. It was a great word. Our vacation can only be described as a complete joy. My word for 2014 is ‘engage.’ I can’t wait to see what our year will look like. I’m already thinking about where are next adventure will be. Where are some places that you’ve been or would like to go to experience sacred moments?

Marriage Bedroom Theory

Marriage can be awesomely messy. I have a theory. The state of our bedroom is a good barometer of Bart and I’s relationship. Anytime I’ve gone in our bedroom and looked around at what is there, I see visual cues of where my focus has been directed or not directed. Our bedroom can sometimes become the dumping ground for stuff. This is what I found today…
A stack of mail and my shopping bags. Hmmm. It makes me ask myself if we are on the same page with our finances. It might be time to re-evaluate the budget.

I found some kid’s toys and their stuff. Have the kids overtaken our intimacy in some ways? Is it time for a getaway together or a date night?

Oftentimes our unfinished room gets the shaft and it is the last room to get attention. I have unfilled frames and I’m a photographer. Maybe it’s time to freshen up the walls or decor just like we need to liven up our relationship and give it more attention now and then.

We’re getting ready to buy a new mattress from our friend, Bruce, at Urban Mattress in Fort Collins. They have a lot of eco-friendly and natural options. We’re moving up to a king. We are done with the small hills in our queen mattress right now and flipping it doesn’t help much. I’m so excited. I’ve already found our new bedding. A bed was our first big purchase together when we were engaged.

Now I need to go focus, clear the clutter, and light some candles.

Kelli Noel Crannell - Great post Jenni! I have never thought about it quite this way. I will pay more attention to what is in our bedroom and perhaps be able to figure out where our relationship is.

Thanks for the reminder!

Jenni and Bart - Kelli-Thanks for your comment. Hope it helps build intimacy in your marriage.

Stone Mountain Lodge Wedding Photography | Lyons Colorado | Stephanie + Barrett

Stone Mountain Lodge was one of many businesses and homes affected by the Colorado floods. We’ve been thinking about the people, homes, and businesses affected and in some cases destroyed because of the water. Please keep this family owned business in your thoughts and prayers. It is nestled at the base of the mountains outside of Lyons, Colorado. In light of Stephanie and Barrett’s anniversary this month, I thought I would share this beautiful place with you.

My friend, Sarah, started a Facebook page called Save My Colorado Wedding as soon as the devastation became more clear and she realized that couples may need help with their weddings. She was overwhelmed with calls and inquiries from couples seeking help in finding new venues and vendors for their displaced weddings because of the floods and roads. Several of us in the wedding industry jumped in to help her make calls to available venues, set up databases, and re-plan weddings in some cases within a day. So many generously offered their services and spaces. I’m so glad to be a part of such a giving and helpful network of wedding industry professionals here in Colorado.

Their wedding was certainly a family affair with a lot of natural details and colors of fall. Their son preceded her down the aisle in a sweet red wagon. Many thanks to Beth from Beth Bruno Photography for helping me to capture the day. Happy Anniversary Stephanie and Barrett! May you have many years of love and happiness together.

Brittney + Graham | Boulder Colorado Engagement Photography

Engagement was inevitable for Brittney and Graham. They both love teaching elementary and middle school.  In fact, they are both teachers in the same school, which is where they met. He’s a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loves Pinterest and having projects.  We had planned to meet in the evening for photos, but rain coming in caused us to be spontaneous and meet earlier in the day. In the end, the timing was perfect.

We had them become students and do a little homework about each other for fun. They had to write something they appreciated and loved about each other without the other seeing it. Thanks to my friend Kelli for the cute prop.
After spending time on the trail, we headed into Louisville for something to eat on the rooftop patio at Rex’s (it’s one of his favorites) and to grab a few more photos. It’s been so fun getting to know them. We go to the same church and didn’t know it. It’s a big church. Britteny shares my love of wearing flats, and when heels are necessary, wedges are the shoe of choice. We also discovered we both love Mediterranean food-specifically gyros.
We are so excited to be a part of your wedding day next July.
